The next segment of the collaborative project DISSONANT (CO) SPACES, a three day international conference entitled MODELLING PUBLIC SPACE(S) IN CULTURE is taking place in Skopje, Macedonia on October 12-14, 2017 at Kino Kultura.

The Conference Modelling Public Spaces in Culture is one of the activities of The Dissonant (Co)Spaces project, aiming to offer diverse thematic overview on “the public space” as a physical location that creates social ties and “the public sphere” as the collection of attributes contributing to the formation of public discourse.

At the conference, public spaces will be reviewed and discussed through two different aspects:
1. Revisionism and production of the history of culture and institution. In this thematic focus we will mostly engage in the modernist heritage from socialist Yugoslavia, critically examining the term “dissonant heritage”, and its usage in the contemporary context of culture. Another focal point is the development history of the institution in former Yugoslavia.
2. Organizational and institutional innovative approaches in governing and modelling institutions, or proposing new models of public spaces as new models of institutions. We will try to examine diverse approaches such as commons, participation and usership in modelling the new public spaces.
These thematic focuses will be developed in thematic modes of presentation, interviews, lectures, discussions etc.

About the project: The Dissonant (Co)Spaces is a collaborative project involving three regional CSO’s: Lokomotiva from Skopje, the Foundation Jelena Šantić from Belgrade and Loose Associations (Slobodne veze) from Zagreb.

The project aims to reflect possibilities for reaffirming derelict, abandoned or “in between” spaces (due to unresolved ownership status or other issues) created within different socio-political and spatial paradigms, by exploring what those spaces can denote today as well as their potential for inclusion and civic participation through public debate, arts and culture.

This project is seen as an attempt to question and explore current processes of history and space-making, while preserving some of the common values and memory by developing new spaces for culture that will promote openness, horizontality, solidarity and inclusion. We aspire towards reactivating and re-making the spaces by producing new content, while preserving memory layers and developing a discursive field in which they will be reflected.

Dissonant (Co)Spaces – Imagining New Institutional Models and Practices Project is supported by Balkan Arts and Culture Fund – BAC (BAC is supported by the Swiss Government through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the European Cultural Foundation (ECF)) and by Ministry of Culture of Republic of Serbia and Ministry of Culture of Republic of Croatia.

Moje kreativne veštine i moja budućnost.

Organizovali smo tri fokus grupe tokom prosle nedelje 18.9. u Kamendinu (Zemun polje) i 20.9. Novom Bečeju i Zrenjaninu na kojima su prisustvovale mlade Romkinje uzrasta od 18 – 35 godina. Devojke su imale priliku da govore o svojim kreativnim veštinama, interesovanjima i iskustvima u oblasti kretivnih industrija. Fokus grupe smo organizovali u saradnji sa Udruženjem Roma Novi Bečej i enskim cetnrom Bibija iz Beograda,  u okviru istražvanja koje sprovodimo za potrebe projekta Podsticanje zapošljavanja mladih, koji u okviru nemačko – srpske razvojne saradnje sprovodi GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH).

Opšti cilj istraživačkog projekta je procena kreativnih potencijala odabranih okruga kako bi se omogućili uslovi za (samo)zapošljavanje i istražile mogućnosti za aktiviranje i podsticanje zapošljavanja mladih Romkinja i mladih povratnica na osnovu njihovih potreba i želja.

Pokrenuta saradnja GIZ-a i Fondacije Jelena Šantić

 U narednom periodu Fondacija Jelena Šantić pokreće projekat Working Horizons for Young Roma Women – with the emphasis on returnees, u saradnji sa projektom nemačke razvojne saradnje pod nazivom Podsticanje zapošljavanja mladih, koji sprovodi Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) u saradnji sa Ministarstvom omladine i sporta Republike Srbije.

 Projektom se fokusiramo na istraživanje potencijala, mogućnosti ekonomskog osnaživanja i kreativnih veština mladih Romkinja i povratnica u Novom Bečeju, Zrenjaninu i Zemunu. Čarobne stolice – mali svetovi velikih čarobnjaka

Kada je Fondacija Jelena Šantić, u novembru prošle godine u Požegi, organizovala predstavljanje svoga programa „Hrabri iskoraci u novim kulturnim praksama“ pozvana sam da učestvujem u razgovoru na temu „Kulturne i umetničke prakse kao odgovor na izazove u lokalnim zajednicama“. Bila je to prilika da saznam nešto više o samoj fondaciji, da vidim kakve su inicijative do sada podržavali, ali i da razgovaramo o različitim izazovima, iskoracima, o hrabrim inicijativama, kao i o problemima koji prate realizaciju takvih umetničkih praksi. Sam program donacija namenjen je podsticanju društvenih promena u lokalnim zajednicama kroz inkluzivnu ulogu kulture i umetnosti.
Kako se više o programu govorilo, o njegovim ciljevima i dosadašnjim rezultatima, sve više sam bila sigurna koja se organizacija iz Požege svojim dosadašnjim iskustvima i aktivnostima potpuno uklapa u takve kriterijume. Prisetila sam se brojnih hrabrih iskoraka Darka Babića, akademskog slikara i osnivača udruženja Divinus Manus. Njegovih likovnih radionica sa decom i mladima sa invaliditetom koje je radio u Požegi i Arilju poslednjih godina. Setila sam se njihovih izložbi i aukcija sa kojih sam kući dolazila bar sa po jednom slikom, ali i sa onim što se novcem ne može kupiti, sa ogromnom radošću i ljubavlju koji su svima nama prisutnima na ovim događajima još dugo nakon toga grejali dušu. Takođe setila sam se, a nadam se da se i drugi sećaju njegove izložbe „Restart“ održane u Gradskoj galerji Požega februara 2014. godine, koja je nastala kao rezultat jednogodišnjeg procesa njegovog povratka umetnosti. Prilikom rada na ovoj izložbi Darko Babić je upravo ostvario tu specifičnu i iskrenu komunikaciju sa decom i mladima sa različitim formama tzv. invaliditeta i to jezikom vizuelnih umetnosti. Tada su nastale slikovnice – portreti koji su svakom učesniku – detetu i mladom čoveku, omogućili da se oseti sastavnim delom kako šire društvene, tako i umetničke zajednice, i da ravnopravno sa umetnikom stvara i učestvuje u prezentaciji zajedničkog dela. Sa druge strane, ona ogromna snaga dečje iskrenosti i radosti, neposrednosti i slobode za eksperiment, doprinela je tome da umetnik Darko Babić istraje na tom putu. Ovaj hrabri iskorak beležio je i dokumentarni film „Restart“ reditelja Dejana Petrovića, koji se i danas prikazuje na festivalima, u kulturnim centrima i u obrazovnim ustanovama i izaziva potrebu publike da nakon odgledanog filma, kroz razgovor podeli iskustva o emocijama koje film i njegovi junaci izazivaju, dajući nam veru i snagu da je sve moguće.
Ovakvi hrabri iskoraci su nastavljeni kasnije. Osnivanjem udruženja Divinus Manus u Požegi 2015. godine, Darko Babić odlučuje da nastavi svoj angažman na unapređenju umetničkog obrazovanja i stvaralaštva prvenstveno orijentisan na decu i mlade sa invaliditetom, kao i na druge marginalizovane kategorije društva.
I kako sam i očekivala, na konkurs Fondacije Jelena Šantić, udruženje Divinus Manis se javilo sa projektom „Čarobna stolica“, kojim se upravo kroz inkluzivno delovanje kulture i umetnosti, deca i mladi uvode u svet primenjene umetnosti. Zamisao autora projekta bila je industrijski proizvedene stolice, oslikavanjem zajedno sa polaznicima radionice, pretvoriti u unikatne umetničke predmete, a da potom po starom dobrom običaju, organizovati aukcijsku prodaju kojom se pored odavanja jedne vrste društvenog i javnog priznanja samim autorima, pruža i jedan vid materijalne satisfakcije. Na konkurs Fondacije Jelena Šantić je početkom decembra 2016. godine stiglo 116 projekata iz cele Srbije, žiri je sužavao izbor u dva kruga selekcije i projekat „Čarobna stolica“ je na finalu konkursa, nakon prezentacije u beogradskoj Kući ljudskih prava i demokratije, ušao u najuži izbor kada je pordžano ukupno šest projekata.
Početak realizacije projekta krenuo je tromesečnim održavanjem grupnih radionica mentora Darka Babića sa deset mladih polaznika, na kojima je nastalo bezbroj crteža, skica i idejnih rešenja. Nakon ovih radionica održavanih u prostorijama GASI (Građanske alijanse za socijalnu inkluziju), koje su pored kreativnog stvranja mladima omogućile i druženje i poboljšale kvalitet njihovih socijalnih interakcija, usledile su individualne radionice u ateljeu Darka Babića, kad se prešlo na oslikavanje stolica. Tome je prethodilo zajedničko donošenje odluke o izboru najuspešnijeg idejnog rešenja i ono se nakon toga realizovalo na glatkim i lepo obrađenim drvenim površinama stolica.
Pored svesti o tome da je četvoromesečni period druženja i krativnog rada kod mladih polaznika radionica upravo doprineo njihovom osnaživanju, uklanjanju stereotipa i predsrasuda i afirmaciji ideje o jednakim pravima i mogućnostima za sve, vizuelni likovni rezultat njihovog delanja je takođe fascinantan. Pred nama je deset istinski čarobnih stolica koje nas svojom lepotom i posebnošću osvajaju. Tu su oslikani mali svetovi velikih čarobnjaka. Predstvaljeni oblici kao što su oblaci i sunce, leptirići i srca, konj i razni cvetovi, kao i različite ispisane reči ili apstraktne dekorativne forme ukazuju na slobodu koja je autorima bila pružena. Izbor kolorita je, takođe, bio posebno važna i individulna stvar za svakog autora ponaosob, ali nam vedrina i razigranost ovih kolorističkih rešenja govori o samoj atmosferi u kojoj su ova prava mala umetnička dela u trajanju od četiri meseca nastajala.
I sad kad su čarobnjaci završili onaj kreativni deo posla, aukcija je trenutak kada će pokazati i svoju plemenitost i humnost. Deo od prikupljenih sredstava dobijenih prodajom čarobnih stolica biće odvojen za kupovinu električnih invalidskih kolica za Anicu Vasović iz Požege, kako bi se poboljšao kvalitet njenog života sa multileks sklerozom.

Goals of the workshop

Workshop Modeling the Public in Dissonant Co-Spaces is one of the activities of  The Dissonant (Co)Spacesand its aim is to contribute to development of the governing models of these specific spaces in collaboration with various professionals in field of cultural management, sustainable development, cultural policy, political theory, economy, cultural heritage, architecture, etc. We will offer an insight into the three concrete cases (Pionirski Grad, Belgrade; Motel Trogir, Trogir; and Kino Kultura, Skopje) and work on the potential for future development of the three specific spaces/sites, having in mind the diverse context, socio-political, economic and normative frameworks as well as preservation of the memory layers of the of cultural heritage.

Additionally, through this workshop, we would like to try to articulate the following issues: what does the term “dissonant heritage” mean today, how is it perceived by the broader public; which of the examples of the 20th century architectural and cultural heritage could be recognized as worth saving, which of the values they implicitly bear, are important in larger socio-political and cultural context today and how those spaces could be reaffirmed through cultural and artistic initiatives (among others).

Ana Zuvela / Biography

Ana Žuvela is a Researcher at the Department of Culture and Communication Institute for Development and International Relations. Originally a concert pianist, Ana holds a Master of Arts in Cultural Policy and Arts Management from the University College Dublin and is a PhD candidate at the University of Zagreb. She has experience in cultural production, arts management, cultural research and advocacy from working for local government bodies, non-governmental cultural organizations and cultural institutions. Her research interests include development of cultural policies and strategies, local cultural development and decentralization of cultural policy as well as new models of cultural governance.She has worked on cultural policy research and expert projects with a range of supra national and national governmental and non-governmental bodies like European Parliament, European Commission, UNESCO, Council of Europe, European Cultural Foundation, Croatian Ministry of Culture, Kultura nova Foundation etc.  Ana Zuvela served as the Co-Chair of the LabforCulture Steering Committee, as Advisor for Cultural Affairs in the City of Dubrovnik and was a Board member of Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra,independent organizations Cuter and Art Workshop Lazareti, Kultura nova Foundation’s Committee for Evaluation of the projects, and is a member of European Cultural Parliament

Iva Cukic / Biography

Graduated from the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade where she earned her doctoral degree in urban planning. The areas of her research include public space, self-organisation, DIY philosophy and urban-cultural discourse. In 2014. she attended a summer school for doctoral students at the Technical University of Vienna – WWTF International Summer School 2014 “Designing places of emancipation” – Cultural practices creating alternative values. In 2010. she co-launched one of the first initiatives aimed at fostering citizens’ participation in urban development, initiating dialogue between citizens, social activist, urban developers, architects and city officials about development of the city, called Ministry of space. From 2012. she is programe and art director of the Street Gallery in Belgrade, first open exhibitional space for comunity and for sharing and co-creation. She works as guest lecturer and associate on the Interdisciplinary studies at the Department for urban planning at Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade.

In 2013, she was engaged in (1) research project Urban Incubator: Belgrade-Savamala, in cooperation with the University of Arts in Zurich – Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (HDK); (2) research project Mobile University Berlin-Belgrade-Barcelona, ​​in collaboration with the Technical University in Berlin and the Guggenheim Lab Berlin. Since 2014, she is head researcher of Belgrade team for The New Metropolitan Mainstream project, a research project of the international expert network INURA. During 2014. and 2015. she worked on a research project Compare: Interdisciplinary explorations of self-organization and practice, which leading partner is ETH Zurich. In 2015. she was a member of a research team Researching on Marginality: Europe, Brazil, China, in the partnership with Goethe Institut through Erasmus + Programme. From 2016. she is engaged in European Commons Assembly that advocates with MEPs for commons-based policies and institution-building. In the partnership with two NGOs from Belgrade, in 2016. she co-launched the study program “Studies of the Commons”, which seeks to explore, apply and experiment with the concept of commons in the local/regional context. Since 2006. she is engaged in professional practice, participating in numerous research projects, studies, workshops and seminars, local and international exhibitions. She is an author of the book „Map of action“ about the urban activism in Serbia, for which she got a special prize. She is a member of INURA (International Network for Urban Research and Action), Commons-watch Network (European Commons Assembly), European Network CitizensLab and Independent Cultural Scene of Serbia.

U ponedeljak 03.04.2017.godine u 14h pridružite nam se  u Dečijm kulturnom centru Beograd, Takovska 8 (mala sala) na mjuziklu “Zemlja čuda”, u kojem učestvuje 30 mladih sa invaliditetom i mladih opšte populacije, a realizuje Palestra, sportski klub iz Kruševca koji smo podržali na konkursu Hrabri iskoraci u novim kulturnim praksama.
Glavnu ulogu igra dečak sa Downovim syndromom koji uz pomoć prijateljice i drugara prelazi put od samoće i očaja do radosti zbog prihvatanja okoline.

Nagradu za animirani film “Čudnovište” na Drugom internacionalnom dečijem festivalu video klipova i animacije KIDIKEM dobila je Grupa Ide. Film  su realizovali sa decom iz Prihvatilišta u Beogradu, u saradnji sa ApsArtom, a kroz program “Hrabri iskoraci u novim kulturnim praksama” Fondacije Jelena Šantić. Da li biste seli na “Čarobnu stolicu”?

Udruženje Divinus Manus iz Požege za cilj ima unapređenje i razvoj stvaralaštva u oblasti umetnosti. Primarno je orijentisano na decu i mlade sa invaliditetom, kao i na druge marginalizovane kategorije društva. Na naš konkurs su se prijavili projektom “Čarobna stolica”, kojim uvode decu u svet primenjene umetnosti. Industrijski proizvedene stolice, oslikavanjem će pretvoriti u lične, unikatne kreacije. Aukcijska, prodajna izložba u Gradskoj galeriji u Požegi, osim emotivne, pružiće im i materijalnu satisfakciju. Nagradiće se njihov talenat i trud jer je prihod sa aukcije u potpunosti njima namenjen. Na aukciji se planira učešće predstavnika lokalne samouprave, institucija i privrednika, u cilju podizanja društvene svesti o dragocenim sposobnostima dece i mladih sa margine. Ovakvo, ravnopravno uključivanje u društvo deci će uvećati svest o sopstvenoj vrednosti.

Ideja je da se ovim projektom podstakne veću samostalnost te dece, unapredi kvalitet njihovih života kroz kulturne i umetničke sadržaje. Svojom kreativnošću stvoriće dela koja afirmišu, demistifikuju, uzdižu i stvaraju optimističnu sliku o osobama sa invliditetom, koja nas uče da razumemo, prihavatamo različitosti i stvaramo mogućnost da svi imaju i ostvaruju jednaka prava. Cilj ovog projekta jeste upravo osnaživanje osoba sa invaliditetom da pokažu svoje potencijale bez predrasuda da oni za to nisu sposobni.

Uz podršku Balkanskog fonda za demokratiju i Tima za socijalno uključivanje i smanjenje siromaštva Vlade Republike Srbije Fondacija “Jelena Šantić” je obezbedila 277.000 dinara za realizaciju “Čarobne stolice”.

Udruženje građana “Belgrade Raw” bavi se istraživanjem socio-političkih i urbanih aspekata života u gradu kroz fotografiju. Cilj im je da baštinjеnjem fоtоgrafskоg naslеđa sa akcentom na važnost fotografije kao dоkumеnta kreiraju foto-arhiv današnjice. Na konkurs Fondacije “Jelena Šantić” prijavili su se projektom Serbia.live, koji se bavi prezentacijom grada, prepoznavanjem problema u lokalnim sredinama promišljajući online vizuelni sadržaj koji nastaje za privatnu upotrebu (Facebook, Instagram…). Ideja je kreiranje jednostavne i otvorene web platforme za sve građane/ke. Na njoj bi se sabirao vizuelni sadžaj koji se odnosi na određene aspekte, poput kulturnih dešavanja, obrazovanja i slično.

Belgrade Raw smatra da građani/ke moraju imati pristup informacijama i mogućnost učestvovanja u procesima upravljanja i donošenja odluka o raspolaganju javnim resursima. U tom smislu je njihov projekat alternativa nepostojećim mehanizmima za uključivanje građana/ki u promišljanje i donošenje javnih politika, a doprineće interakciji između ljudi i njihove sredine, ali i između samih građana/ki, bez obzira na njhov socijalni status. Implementacija online platforme, altеrnative stеrеоtipnоm prеdstavljanju živоta u Srbiјi i uјednо prеglеd i upоrеđivanje različitih rеgiоna, zaјеdnica i оbičaјa, te afirmaciјa dоkumеntarnе fоtоgrafiје i fоtо arhiva, obrazоvanje mladih na pоlju vizuеlnе kulturе i razviјanjе kritčkоg оdnоsa prеma zaјеdnic takođe su važani ciljevi projekta Serbia.live.

Uz podršku Balkanskog fonda za demokratiju i Tima za socijalno uključivanje i smanjenje siromaštva Vlade Republike Srbije Fondacija je obezbedila 268,800 RSD za realizaciju aktivnosti Udruženja građana Belgrade Raw.
